Acquisition helps Metro sales

Same store food sales for Metro Inc. were up 3.2 percent in the Q1 of 2019 while adjusted net earnings of $172.2 million were up 35.9 percent. Overall sales of $3.9 billion were up 27.8 percent, and up 3.5 percent when excluding revenue from the Jean Coutu Group.

The Jean Coutu Group acquisition was completed on May 11, 2018, and its results were consolidated with the corporation’s results as of that date. Eric R. La Flèche, president and chief executive officer of Metro was very pleased with the company’s first quarter results.

The results "reflect strong execution of our business plans and the success so far of our combination with the Jean Coutu Group. In a very competitive market environment, we are well positioned to meet our customers' high expectations and continue to create long-term value for our shareholders," said La Flèche.

Metro’s sales in Q1 of 2019 from the Jean Coutu Group totaled $757.1 million.
